We will highlight the fact that our 2020 Census community training will be culturally appropriate and that we will collaborate with CBOs that are sensitive to non-English-speaking communities. This rally on the steps of the State Capitol will feature Governor Tim Walz and Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan.  After the event, there will be a media briefing for the statewide capitol bureau press corps featuring the Census Bureau’s regional director and people who are already at work organizing for the census in historically undercounted communities.  Leadership for the event is being provided by the Minnesota State Demographer’s Office, with support from the Minnesota Census Mobilization Partnership.

New York Counts 2020

New York City

Starting in the morning volunteers will be handing out leaflets at several train stations across New York City to spread the word. Afterwards, our volunteers will go to local community commerce to  hang  New York Counts 2020 posters in their business as a way to engage businesses and inform them of the importance of a fair count as well as to sustain visibility. Finally, we will host a press conference in Brooklyn with remarks by Mayor de Blasio and will also host community forums in all five boroughs throughout the week.

VOICES’ 2019 Child Advocacy Day will bring over 1000 children from around the state to the lawn of the Alabama State Capital for the annual Kids Count Rally to highlight the importance of counting children ahead of the 2020 Census. In addition, VOICES will host an Advocacy Breakfast prior to the rally where the proclamations will be displayed and attendees will hear from legislative leadership and a panel discussion featuring state agency heads centered around the state of children in Alabama.
